What is Giving Tuesday?


After Black Friday and Cyber Monday is a day to GIVE BACK. Giving Tuesday is a global day of philanthropy fueled by generosity and social media.
It is a movement to ensure that anyone can give back, because there is no gift too small and all gifts matter.

Whether it is a gift of time, money, items or influence, Columbus State employees and students will come together to GIVE BACK. 

 

Campus Wide Involvement

    • Items collected before and on Giving Tuesday benefit their Light Up A Life student parent holiday event.


  • Giving Stations will be located throughout campus:
    • Nestor Hall
    • Sips! Coffee (Davidson Hall)
    • Union Hall Food Court
    • Bookstore (DX Building)


  • The Columbus State Bookstore:
    • Is donating "Thank You" gifts for anyone who donates ANY amount of money or items on Giving Tuesday at the Bookstore and Sips! Giving Stations
    • Is donating a raffle prize that anyone who gives at least $2 on Giving Tuesday is eligible to win
    • Will be offering "Round Up" opportunities at all their cash registers from November 1- 28th.

 

How can you and your club/organization can get involved?

  • Time
    • Individuals will be able to volunteer their time with a quick service activity in Nestor Hall from 10am – 4pm.
    • Clubs/Orgs and their members will have the exclusive opportunity to volunteer to help manage one of the Giving Stations throughout campus. (Click here to sign up) 


    • A Giving Station will be a table that students and employees can stop by to donate money, items or take an UnSelfie (a selfie for a good cause) to help spread the word about Giving Tuesday.
      • Giving Stations will be located at Nestor Hall, the Bookstore, the Cafeteria and at Sips! Coffee. Anyone who donates any amount of money or items will receive a special gift (while supplies last)
      • We are specifically looking for volunteers on November 28th from 10am – 4pm, we will only be able to have these Giving Stations IF we have volunteers to run them.

  • Treasure
    • Individuals and Clubs/Orgs can donate money or items.

    • Money will go to the Columbus State Foundation Support Fund for Greatest Need and will help support our fellow students.

    • Items will be collected, placed into Gift Baskets and given to Columbus State student parents at the Light Up A Life event on December 2nd.
      •  You can donate a whole basket or items that can help fill a basket.
        • The following items are needed for these themed baskets
          • Arts and Craft basket: paint, paint brushes, markers, color pencils etc.
          • Movie Night basket: Popcorn, popcorn toppings, popcorn bowl, candy bars, candy boxes
          • Game Night basket: Board games, cards
          • Baking Night basket: Pan, Cake mix, cooking utensils etc.
          • Basket for mommy: pampering items, face masks, nail polish etc.

  • Club/Org Giving Tuesday Competition
    • More information below, but essentially awards will be given to the club/org who:
      • Raises the most amount of money by November 28
      • Collects the most amount of items by November 28
        • Clubs/Orgs are encouraged to collect money and items by holding small events around campus, within their clubs or by reaching out to the community.
        • How to turn in money/items:
          • Money
            • Clubs/Orgs can turn in money to the cashiers office using their account number and project id. The account number and project id can be found on each club/org's profile on the Hub, under the file Club Budget Reports. All money should be turned in the same business day as it is collected when possible, but at least within three business days. Just like with any fundraiser, clubs/orgs should have at least two members present while money is collected and deposited to ensure accountability.
          • Items
            • Clubs/Orgs collecting items should secure space on campus to holdthe items. If clubs and orgs do not have the use of a lounge or if the advisor cannot store the items somewhere in their work facilities, SEaL has room to store approximately 10 boxes for clubs and organizations where people can drop items off for donation. Clubs and orgs should market that they are collecting items and make sure to include the space where items can be dropped off for their specific gift raising efforts. If your club or organization is utilizing one of the boxes in the SEaL office, you can let people know that they can drop their items off in Nestor Hall 116 and that they should drop the items in the box for the specific club or organization they want to support.

  • Influence
    • Individuals as well as Clubs/Orgs are encouraged to spread the word about Giving Tuesday before and on the day of, using the hashtags #GivingTuesday and #Give2CSCC
    • Check out Giving Tuesday's of the past by searching #Give2CSCC on your favorite social media channels

 

 

Why should your Club/Org get involved with Giving Tuesday?

  • Service Hours can turn into funding for your Club/Org
    • Clubs or organizations who host a giving station for 3 or more hours on Giving Tuesday, or who hold events to raise funds or collect gifts will be considered eligible for the $100.00 Tier III funding award.
      • NOTE - Clubs and organizations must meet all minimum requirements to be a Tier III student group before the funds will be officially available to them for use.

  • Promote your Club/Org
    • If your Club/Org members are able to volunteer to help run one of the Giving Stations on Tuesday November 28 from 10am – 4pm we encourage you to bring materials about your Club/Org and invite students who are stopping by to give back to learn more about your club or organization.

  • Club/Org Giving Tuesday Competition
    • The Club/Org that raises the most amount of money by November 28th will win 3 free pizzas from our campus caterer, AVI.
    • The Club/Org that collects the most items for Light Up A Life by November 28th will win one large cookie tray.
    • These food items can be used at any of your upcoming Club/Org events and must be used by May 1st 2018.
